Welcome to the Official AVVC Website
A
heartfelt thank you to Andrea Buckner….
After 13 years of coaching in the Antelope Valley, serving many of the high schools in the area and AVVC volleyball club, Andrea Buckner is saying good-bye. Over the summer she had the honor of coaching for the USA High Performance Youth Red team representing the SCVA. In doing so, she coached with the co-founder of TCA volleyball club and was offered a job. TCA has won the Junior Olympic Gold medals in the 18 open in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The opportunity to work for a nationally recognized club is something she has been working hard for.
“I earned my master’s degree two years ago so that college coaching opportunities could be available to me. I have attended several camps/clinics put on by the top clubs in So Cal so that my coaching would continually improve. THIS is the opportunity of a lifetime for me, despite the commute I will be making this year. Next year, I am hoping to relocate for TCA. Maybe to Huntington Beach or New York or Washington. I am excited to see what doors open for me with this change.”
Initially coach Buckner turned down the job offer because of her loyalty to AVVC and particularly the girls she has coached. “I told them no at first because I love my girls so much. I wanted to see them through their high school years and hopefully see them get scholarship offers.” When TCA offered her a full time job both coaching and helping to further the club’s overall success and expansion, she couldn’t say no again. “I know I am leaving the girls in good hands with AVVC. I will miss them and their families but this change will be good for all of us. Who knows, maybe I will be the college coach that recruits them!”
She
wanted to thank the directors for their hard work and integrity in running
club to serve the valley. She also wanted to thank them for allowing
her to push her team to levels of success no other team has reached.
“I respect the directors a great deal for taking a chance on me and
seeing what I could do. They have a heart to provide great volleyball
and to do so keeping families financial situations in mind. They provide
fair opportunities for all families to raise money that is honest. It
is their integrity more than anything that I have appreciated.”
Good luck Andrea, thank you for your years of dedication to AVVC, AVVC/Naia, Club Naia and high school volleyball. AVVC is especially proud to
mention you are the first coach to take an AVVC team to the gold division in the SCVA!
We wish you the very best and you will be sorely missed!
